Chasseur à l'affût

About the artist

A lover of nature and its vast woodlands, trees and their many species are the primary source of inspiration for the sculptor and his artistic approach.

When Guy Pierre rough hews a piece of wood, be it elm, basswood, white pine, black willow, or butternut, it is to discover its grain and texture and reveal all its beauty, and so that from his agile hands there might emerge human figures fraught with intense emotion, tenderness, and life.

For him, removing the bark from the tree is to give it a new adornment ; the skin of a child endowed with softness. In so doing, Guy Pierre's technique and sensitivity succeed wonderfully. With created intensity of movement, his exposed works allow the viewer to recognize gestures and scenes from daily life, and moods which the artist succeeds in rendering.
